Aruba
The one happy islandExplore the Island
Oranjestad
A bustling harbour city, Oranjestad’s streets and shopping centres are dotted with international luxury retailers, diverse boutiques and dazzling jewellers. Fascinating restored landmark buildings are found along the way, such as the green “stadhuis” housing and the City Hall where civil marriages are performed.
A scenic linear park lines the coast from Oranjestad to the airport. A new state-of-the-art tram begins at the cruise terminal, meandering through town, all along the sparkling new landscaped Main Street. Oranjestad is also a jumping nightlife mecca, filled with restaurants, cafés, clubs, lounges, bars and casinos.
San Nicolas
Welcome to the Sunrise side of the island! Although San Nicolas, Aruba’s ‘Sunrise City’, is a quiet coastal town of 32.84 km2 located only twelve miles southeast of Oranjestad, it seems a world away. In the heart of Aruba’s second largest city is a quaint promenade on Zeppenfeldstraat, an art murals, some shops, snack shops, restaurants and bars as well as historic buildings of architectural interest. The metal maze of the refinery dominates the landscape and in its heyday when the oil business was thriving, San Nicolas was the place to be. For tourists looking for authentic Caribbean flair and flavour, San Nicolas has plenty to offer: Beautiful beaches and island charm far removed from the glitz and glamour of the Palm Beach resorts and sparkling new shopping centres.
Noord
Noord, meaning north in Dutch, geographically encompasses the northern reaches of the island, including Palm Beach, the epicentre of tourism in Aruba and home to the hotel district, world-class restaurants and cafés, nightclubs and bars, casinos, shopping and the protected wetlands of the Bubali Plas Bird Sanctuary. Noord’s reach to our northwest and northern coastlines includes the beaches of Palm Beach, Fisherman’s Huts (a windsurfing and kiteboarding hub), Malmok and Boca Catalina and Arashi (spectacular snorkelling spots). Along the northern coast, the crashing waves and limestone cliffs provide a beautifully dramatic change of scenery.
The historic and recently refurbished California Lighthouse anchors the district of Noord Aruba, casting a watchful eye over the area, including the island’s PGA Championship golf course, Tierra del Sol Resort and Golf. The iconic grace of Santa Anna Catholic Church lies in the heart of the district, while the historic Alto Vista Chapel, built in 1750, sits perched on a hill overlooking the northern coastline.
